Knob Noster has potential to capture a huge commercial audience. Knob Noster is uniquely located right next to Whiteman AFB and the Knob Noster State Park. Whiteman AFB, employs over 4000 people, and most of these people commute through Knob Noster daily. Knob Noster State Park in 2017 had nearly 450,000 visitors. Knob Noster is also located directly off Hwy 50, a busy corridor that connects the Missouri State Capital to Missouri's largest city. Hwy 50 also is a popular route for tourist traffic from the west side of the state to Truman Lake and Lake of the Ozark's. A well planned commercial corridor could create a large revenue potential for Knob Noster, without a single tax hike.
With the average age of Whiteman AFB, at 22 years old, combined with the Knob Noster State Parks large tourist population. Knob Noster could be an attractive location for amusement type businesses. It would be great to see businesses that attract state park visitors as well as the base population. We already have the athletic/outdoorsy demographic bedding down right outside our town, we need to give them something to do in our town.
If you have spent any time in Knob Noster, you will notice the roads and sidewalks leave much to be desired. These roads and sidewalks did not get this way overnight. They also will not get fixed over night. This is a huge issue to tackle, but with a long term plan great roads and sidewalks are a possibility. I would like to see a 10-15 year plan to redo all the sidewalks and roads inside the city limits. We need to switch our focus from patching roads to a road replacement plan. We will need to get our road department the equipment and resources they need to make long term repairs as well. I would also love to see sidewalks, curbing and guttering as part of every road project in Knob Noster.
